Climate of Mumbai

Mumbai being a coastal city of India, climate of Mumbai, it is never very hot or cold. Actually there is not much change in temperature, all through the year. But, as this city is very close to the sea; rather it can be said that as Mumbai is situated on the shores of Arabian sea, Mumbai experiences humidity throughout the year.

Mumbai is situated at the tropical zone and as it is near to Arabian sea, the climate of Mumbai can be broadly classified into two seasons, namely, dry season and the humid season
The humid season of Mumbai is generally between March and October and at this time, the temperature remains over 30ºC, with lots of water content in the atmosphere. Mumbai experiences monsoon during June and September and this is the time for maximum amount of rainfall which is around 2200 mm or 84 inches. The highest rainfall in a single day as recorded till date is 944 mm. The maximum rainfall in a year as recorded is 3452mm. In recent, time, more or less every year, Mumbai remains in flooded condition for some days, during this period.

The dry season of Mumbai is between November and February. This time, the climate of Mumbai is mostly humid in moderate levels with cool and warm weather. The cold North winds bring mild chill in the climate of Mumbai during January and February.

The annual temperature of Mumbai ranges from 38 °C to 11°C. The recorded range is 43.3 °C in the higher range and 7.4°C in the lower range.

Owing to the overall weather pattern and humidity, climate of Mumbai is never extreme, with exception of sometimes flood condition during the monsoons.

As Mumbai is the most populous city of India, and lots of car ply on the roads, it is very dusty. Ir is recommended for everyone to carry an umbrella during the monsoons as rain lash at any time and it is highly unpredictable.
