transportation in Mumbai is mainly based on public transport as the people mostly rely on public conveyance to travel around the city or from home to work. It include the auto rickshaws, suburban railways, taxis, buses mostly of BEST company, hovercrafts, ferries and obviously airplanes.
One of the major modes of transportation in Mumbai, is the the railways. There are two primary railway zones in Mumbai. The Central Railway, whose headquarters is at Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus, also known as Victoria Terminus. The other one is the Western railway, headquartered near Churchgate.

The three separate networks of railways run across the the north-south direction, covering the length of the city. The Central railway cover the western region whereas, the Central railway coders the northeast and the central part of the metropolitan city.
The airport of Mumbai, Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport was previously known as Sahar International Airport, is one of the busiest airports of India and one of the major modes of transportation in Mumbai. This is the hub for both passenger and cargo flights. There are two terminals of Mumbai airport.
The international airport, popularly known as Sahar Airport is situated in the eastern region of Andheri suburban region. The domestic terminal known ad Santacruz Airport is located near the suburban region of Santacruz and Vile Parle. The first airport of India is this airport. A second airport, Navi Mumbai International airport, is expected in the near future.
The public Bus Service in Mumbai is run by BEST, Bombay Electric Supply and transport, a government organization. They have red colored single and double decker buses. New air conditioned buses with low floors have been introduced in recent times.
Most of the people rely on auto rickshaws and public taxis for transportation in Mumbai. The auto rickshaws are black colored with yellow meters, but they are not allowed in the central region between Colaba and Mahim in the western region and Sion and Colaba in the eastern region of Mumbai.
The taxis are black colored with yellow meters. There are some taxis by Meru and Gold cabs, which are silver and green colored and some and yellow and red with radio. Coll cabs of Mumbai are air conditioned metered taxis with Blue and silver color.
Some other modes of transportation in Mumbai are hovercraft services and ferry services of Mumbai, which people generally take to visit Elephanta caves, and to nearby places.
Car rentals are also available to visit from one tourist destination to the other. It is also helpful for the citizens of Mumble to move from one place to the other in and around Mumbai.
